Conference Updates 11 March 2024

Please find the preliminary conference programme updated on the conference website. We are starting with a virtual online day on Tuesday 4 June, followed with two full onsite days on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 June. This time the venue for the event is newly built ’Medisiina’ and its conference facilities. The building is also a home base for the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Turku.

We are currently working on the detailed schedule for both online and onsite sessions. Notification of acceptance of the abstracts has been sent to all the corresponding authors. If you have submitted and have not heard from us, please do check first your email spam folders and then contact us, if needed.

If you have any questions about the conference and its arrangements, do not hesitate to contact our conference secretariat at futuresconference@utu.fi.

Sneak peek at some of the forthcoming workshops

Biodiversity Respectful Futures
This session makes an interdisciplinary effort of bringing together the insights from natural and social sciences to create a new paradigm of biodiversity respectful futures. We already know the root causes of the biodiversity loss, but what we urgently need today, are the actions, decisions, and future visions towards more biodiversity rich futures.

Unlocking Agency for Just Green Transition in the Use of Finnish Forests
This workshop focuses on futures agency, an empowered capability and motivation to act towards a better future. The aim is to collaboratively identify agency deficiencies and discuss how different futures literacy aspects or futures consciousness dimensions could be trained with the actors to foster resilience to yet unknown futures.

Our World of Futures Studies as a Mosaic
In this interactive session different approaches to futures studies and foresight from different parts of the globe are presented. Participants are welcome to discuss how the approaches and experiences are connected to present trends, and how they wish the field would develop in the future.

Early-bird registration fees are valid until 8 April

We encourage you to register in well advance and also to start planning and booking your travelling as soon as possible. Do make your hotel reservation asap as well, since the city of Turku will be fully booked due to a number of different events in June 2024. A quota of hotel rooms has been reserved for the Conference participants on “first come, first served” basis.

Join us at the Conference Dinner

In the evening of the first onsite conference day 13 June you are most welcome to the conference dinner at the Old Town Hall, which is located in the historic Great Old Square by the river Aura. Tickets for the dinner can be purchased online during the registration process.
